This book examines the connection between two historical disappearances linked to the name of the world-renowned linguist Mahmud Kashgari: the city of Barshan and the manuscript of the scholar's lost book. The concept of "loss" in this book goes beyond the scope of pure archaeology, taking on an interdisciplinary dimension. It is a metaphor for syncretic loss, in which the disappearance of a topos (ancient Barshan) by a twist of fate is linked to the loss of the logos-one of Mahmud Kashgari's fundamental linguistic works, work on which was carried out, in part, on the lands of Barshan. Their return in the book is linked to the challenges of modern linguistic tourism.
