Muscles
Muscles are used to move the body by contracting to become shorter and stretching to become longer. There are three types of muscles:Skeletal muscles, also called striated muscles, are attached to bones so we can move, walk, and jump. Skeletal muscles are organized in bundles and look striped under a microscope. Smooth muscles are found in the digestive system and blood vessels. They are called non-striated because they are not bundled and look smooth under a microscope. Cardiac muscles are found in the heart, are striated, and are connected to each other in branches. All three types of muscles work together to make the body move, breathe, pump blood, and digest food.Muscles can be made stronger by exercising, eating nutritious food, and getting enough rest. 24 full-color illustrated pages.
