My Book Library — Privacy Policy

This privacy policy applies to the My Book Library mobile application (Android package name: app.booksw.mybooklibrary). My Book Library is a personal virtual library app running on the booksw.app platform. It has no book-swapping features; the books you add are visible only to you.

Data we collect
Account information. Your name and email address are collected when you register. If you choose to sign in with Google, Google provides us with your name, email address and, if available, the URL of your profile photo. Your password is stored using irreversible hashing and is never kept in plain text.
Your library content. The books you add, together with their reading status, page progress, start and finish dates, ratings, reviews, tags, series information, notes, your bookcase organisation and loan records, are stored on our servers and linked to your account.
Cover images. Only if you choose to add your own cover photo for a book, the image you select is uploaded to our servers and attached to that book.
Data kept on your device. Your language preference, yearly reading goal and session token are stored only on your device and are not sent to the server.
Data we do not collect
My Book Library does not collect location data, does not access your contacts, does not use an advertising identifier and contains no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs. The app shows no ads.
Camera and photo access
Camera. Camera permission is requested only to scan the ISBN barcode on the back cover of a book and, if you wish, to photograph a cover. Barcode decoding happens entirely on your device; the camera feed is never transmitted to or stored on our servers.
Photo library. Gallery access is used only when you pick a cover image, and only for the image you select. Your gallery is never read or scanned as a whole.
How we use your data
The data we collect is used solely to manage your account, keep your library in sync across your devices, calculate your reading statistics and provide the service to you. Your data is not used for marketing and is not sold.
Sharing with third parties
Your personal data is not shared with and not sold to third parties. Only the following limited transfers occur so the service can function:
- Sign in with Google. If you choose this method, authentication is performed by Google and Google’s privacy policy applies.
- Book metadata lookup. When you look up an ISBN, that number is sent to external book catalogues. These requests contain no identity or account information — only the ISBN.
- Legal obligations. Where duly requested by competent authorities under applicable law.
Relationship with BookSwap
My Book Library uses the same account infrastructure as BookSwap (booksw.app), so you can sign in with an existing BookSwap account. However, books you add from My Book Library are marked private: they are never listed in the swap pool and are not shown to other users. If you also use the BookSwap app with the same account, your activity there is governed by BookSwap’s own privacy policy.
Data security
All communication between the app and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS. Passwords are stored using a one-way hashing algorithm. Access rights are kept to a minimum.
Retention and deletion
Your data is retained for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time from within the app: Profile → Settings → Delete account. When your account is deleted, your library, notes, ratings, uploaded cover images and profile information are permanently removed; this cannot be undone.
If you cannot access the app, you may request deletion by writing to [email protected] from the email address registered to your account; requests are processed within 7 business days.
Exporting your data
You can export your entire library at any time as a Goodreads-compatible file via Profile → Export as CSV. The file is generated on your device.
Your rights
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict the processing of and port your data. To exercise these rights, write to [email protected].
Children’s privacy
My Book Library is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from this age group. If we become aware that we have collected data from a user under 13, we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated. For material changes we will notify you in the app or by email. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
